Firstly, we hope you and your horse(s) are coping during this difficult time.
It goes without saying that the welfare of your horse(s) is of paramount importance to our practice however we do have to consider the health and welfare of our clients and employees.
We now have official guidance from our governing body on what Towcester & Onley Equine Vets are permitted to do to keep your horse healthy during this period of uncertainty. This involves ensuring their essential veterinary needs are cared for.
From today, our equine team will only be allowed to provide emergency and essential veterinary work on a face-to-face basis. Rest assured, when you call the clinic our reception team will be able to allocate a vet straight away to any emergency calls.
If your call is about a non-urgent matter we will direct you to a vet to triage the situation. This will then result in a booking for either a visit, if it is deemed necessary, or a thorough telemedicine consultation. This will be performed via a video link, ideally horse-side to facilitate an accurate assessment of your horse.
The cost of a telemedicine consultation will be £20 and this will allow us to dispense necessary medication for your horse to either collect (from our Paulerspury practice) or we can post it to you. We can offer you this service due to emergency changes in dispensing laws to avoid face-to-face contact, in line with government advice.
Our governing body has said not to perform any Influenza vaccinations for at least 1 month. We understand that this will cause frustration for many clients but please be mindful that this decision is out of our hands. We are hopeful that all major sporting associations will acknowledge this interruption when considering a horse’s vaccine status once competitions restart.
As we will not be performing routine work, such as dentals, vaccinations etc. we have suspended all of our free zone visits. If the stance on vaccinations changes, we will contact you immediately.
Our team are working their way through the diary to contact owners who have pre-booked appointments but please don’t hesitate to contact us on 01327 811007. If you’d like to read the official statement, follow this link:
Thank you for your cooperation during these unprecedented times. Stay healthy and we will keep you updated.
