  • Hoof Wall Defects

    Cause: various, often injury to the coronary band.

    Signs: a horizontal or vertical crack in the hoof wall. Variable degree of fluctuant lameness due to individual movement of the hoof at the sides of the defect bruising the underlying laminae.

    Treatment: supportive/remedial shoeing (quarter clips to stabilise vertical cracks), seating out of solar surface, clips across crack.
