This Highland bull has been suffering with breathing difficulties for several weeks. A loud inspiratory noise can be heard when auscultated with a stethoscope. The majority of the noise is coming from the upper respiratory tract. The bull was restrained in stocks and our video endoscope was introduced into the airway via a nostril. While food material is observed in the windpipe the bull appears to be suffering from a dislocated soft palate which would cause partial obstruction of the airway and a loud inspiratory noise. This condition also increases the likelihood of food material being inhaled.
