– Based between Towcester and Onley (Warwickshire)
We are looking to expand our current veterinary nursing team of 7 with this new position, supporting both our main clinic at Plum Park (Towcester) and the team based at our clinic within Onley Grounds Equestrian Complex.
The role will suit a versatile, reliable, hard-working, motivated individual with an outstanding attention to detail who is looking for a rewarding and challenging position within the equine veterinary industry. Please note that this is a physically demanding role that will require working outside in varied weather conditions.
Applicants should have previous horse handling experience and be both confident and competent handling all types, sizes and ages of horses, including fit competition horses. The post holder will be responsible for holding horses for veterinary inspection, and or procedures and lameness examinations and therefore must be able to handle them safely, ensuring that high standards of patient care and cleanliness are maintained. Dependent on ability level and communication skills there may be the opportunity to ride for examination – this is preferable but not essential. Previous veterinary experience is not required.
The main aspects of this role include:
- Assisting vets on client visits – duties will involve horse holding/restraint,x-raying, assisting with ultrasound scanning, assisting with medication and other diagnostic procedures
- Assisting Veterinary Surgeons with out of hours treatment and patient care
- Transporting equipment to vet visits
- General yard duties including paddock, stable maintenance, feeding
- General patient care including grooming, bathing and in hand patient exercise
- Maintaining equipment, cleaning kits and sterilising as appropriate
- Processing internal and external laboratory samples
- Cleaning clinical and non-clinical areas
This is a part-time role working 20 hours a week at Onley (ideally over 2 consecutive days), plus 1 night per week and 1 in 5 weekends on call (on call work at Towcester only). There will also be a requirement to work extra hours to cover holiday, sickness, out of hours and busy periods – therefore, the ideal candidate will be able to work flexibly to respond as situations change. However, we will aim to confirm working patterns a minimum of 4 weeks in advance.
