Are you ready for an exciting new step in your veterinary nursing career?
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced REVN with good horse handling and clinical skills to help develop and improve the day-to-day running of our practice. The successful candidate will retain involvement with first opinion equine veterinary nursing including theatre nursing, advanced dentistry, in-patient care and lameness work ups, as well as supporting and developing the nursing team of 8 (including another REVN and 2 student EVNs), therefore clinical coaching experience would be an advantage.
We are a busy, independent, mixed practice based in and around Towcester, Northamptonshire. Our equine department offers a full service, including ambulatory, diagnostic, reproductive and surgical services from Towcester, plus a second, fully equipped clinic at Onley Grounds Equestrian Centre, Warwickshire. The equine nursing team supports our 11 equine vets (including an internal medicine certificate holder) who in turn support our clients over a wide geographical area which reaches into 6 counties! With a varied mix of leisure and competition horses, we have a high orthopaedic and first opinion caseload. You will work alongside our experienced clinicians, including visiting surgical diplomats, and be involved with all aspects of equine nursing including lab work; ensuring nursing care standards are upheld; training student EVNs; Schedule 3 procedures; radiography; theatre nursing as well as daily organisation and management of the nursing team. Support in this role will be provided by the Nurse Team Manager (who works across Small Animal and Equine), the Deputy Head Equine Nurse and the Equine Partners with whom you will work on a daily basis.
The role of Head Equine Nurse is also key to our ability to provide a high level of clinical standards. This is achieved through daily leadership of the nursing team across our 2 equine clinics and providing a nursing voice as part of the management team. Therefore, excellent communication skills are essential, as well as enthusiasm and resilience in what can be a challenging but ultimately rewarding industry! To be effective in the role you must be able to multi-task and adapt to sudden changes, planning and prioritising effectively in line with business needs whilst ensuring patient and client care remains high.
This is a full-time position, including an equal share in the out of hours on call rota, which is currently one night per week and one weekend in five.
To be considered for this role please submit your CV plus a covering letter outlining why you are interested in joining our Practice to Sue Adams, HR Manager sue.adams@towcestervets.co.uk or alternatively contact Sue on 07394 565760 for an informal chat about the opportunity.
We are committed to equality of opportunity for all and welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds.
