Situated in the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside, Towcester Equine Vets is part of a well-established independent mixed practice.
We are looking for a new team member with strong clinical skills and capability in orthopaedics. We are also keen to grow our dental services, so an interest and experience of dentistry would be very useful! Our Equine services are run from both Towcester, where we have full hospitalisation facilities and offer reproductive services (with indoor stallion collection facility), and our second, fully equipped clinic at Onley Grounds Equestrian Centre, Warwickshire – the successful candidate will likely work at both sites. We have purpose-built treatment rooms; surgical theatre; in-house laboratory; endoscopy; gastroscopy; shockwave and laser capability. Our accounting process is supported by the Eclipse system which enables vets to view all notes, diary, and bill via mobile phone whilst on ambulatory calls.

We treat a varied mix of leisure and competition horses, and the high orthopaedic and first opinion caseload, offers interesting and varied clinical work. Your weekly duties will include orthopaedic and poor performance investigations/diagnostic procedures, routine healthcare, and emergency work. Our equine vets work a 4-day week including 1 night on call, plus 1 weekend in 4 as part of an on-call team, however, we are happy to discuss more flexible working arrangements as required. You will be working alongside our team of 10 experienced clinicians, including in-house surgeon, and 2 interns (plus visiting surgery diplomats). We encourage a collaborative approach and provide support to all members of our team including nursing and support staff.
We pride ourselves on the relationships we build with our clients, so effective communication is key, along with professionalism, a good work ethic and strong time management skills. You must feel comfortable working flexibly and adapting to changing priorities as they occur with a solution-focused, ‘can-do’ attitude.
The successful applicant will have a degree in veterinary surgery and membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, plus the right to work in the UK. Ideally, our new Vet will have gained at least a year of clinical experience working within an equine practice with a focus on orthopaedic diagnosis and treatment, but all applications will be considered.
We will offer a competitive salary as part of the remuneration package – benefits include Private Healthcare, generous CPD allowance, RCVS fees paid and staff discount. A vehicle is not supplied but mileage is paid.
