Equine Vet Internships
Our Equine services are run from two sites – Plum Park Farm near Towcester, where we have full hospitalisation facilities including surgical theatre and where we offer reproduction services (with a purpose-built indoor stallion collection facility). Our second, fully equipped clinic is located at Onley Grounds Equestrian Centre, Warwickshire. We use the latest technology to ensure that we provide the best possible service to our equine clients.
We offer a 12-month equine vet internship for recent veterinary graduates; typically one position starting in July and one in September. These are full-time roles joining our 9 other equine vets and dedicated nursing team, all of whom will be committed to helping you succeed in your chosen career. Our equine vet internships provide a highly supportive learning environment, designed to enable you to become a well-rounded first opinion vet. You will enhance your diagnostic and therapeutic skills through a structured, hands-on approach that can be tailored to your clinical interests; we strive to give you the best start to your veterinary career.
With a varied mix of leisure and competition horses, our interns are exposed to a high orthopaedic and first opinion caseload. Throughout the 12 months you will develop your clinical decision-making skills by working alongside our experienced clinicians, including two visiting surgery diplomats. Exposure to both hospital and ambulatory practice is achieved through a rotational basis of one week ambulatory and one week in clinic with a 1-in-2-weekends on call rota.
We hope to attract candidates who will grab these opportunities and work hard to learn as much as possible in this supportive environment. Previous equine vet interns who have thrived have been self-starters unafraid to ask questions and learn from colleagues, able to recognise the gaps in their skill set and actively seek ways to address them. Communication will be key, as will enthusiasm and resilience – we work in a challenging but ultimately rewarding industry, and we look forward to welcoming you to it!
We offer a competitive salary and accommodation as part of the remuneration package, with the bonus of every 2nd Friday off work to assist in achieving a good work-life balance. A vehicle is not supplied but mileage is paid. Benefits include accommodation, Private Healthcare, RCVS fees paid and staff discount.
