Covid-19 (Coronavirus) – an update for our clients

Covid-19 Practice Information

As restrictions are relaxed in England from 19th July we wanted to update our clients on how we will be working as a practice.

For the time being we will continue to work with the measures we currently have in place.  This means that we are not yet allowing clients within the building. Our vets will talk with you in the car park and while they do so, we ask that you wear a face mask. We will continue to wear face masks outside and when working in the practice.
No one should attend the clinic if they are experiencing symptoms of Covid-19 or, if you have recently tested positive for Covid-19.

When we reach the point that all of our staff have been fully vaccinated and when close contact with someone who has a positive Covid test doesn’t result in self isolation, we will then review our guidance.

Currently, if a member of staff tests positive this can result in a large proportion of the team having to self isolate, which could result in the closure of the practice. Obviously this is something we need to avoid so we can continue to provide care to our clients and their pets.

Clients visiting the clinic

PLEASE NOTE: You must not attend our clinics if you are self-isolating, or show any symptoms of the virus, or feel unwell

Please wear a face covering if you attend our clinic sites. We also request that clients wear face coverings when we are visiting for an appointment

Clinic Appointments

We ask that only the minimum number of people accompany your horse to an appointment at our clinics. If more people must attend to load/unload your horse, only one person should be nominated to interact with us.

  • On arrival at the clinic, you must call reception and notify us of your arrival before leaving your vehicle. You must not unload your horse until authorised to do so.
  • Wherever possible paperwork for admission will be completed in the carpark.
  • If you are waiting whilst your horse is seen, as opposed to dropping off, you will be asked to remain in your vehicle for the duration of the examination.
  • We will conduct discussions with you where permitted, exercising social distancing rules.

Visiting your horse/pet during their stay

As restrictions relax, it may be possible that visits can be allowed via prior arrangement. Please speak to our reception teams to discuss this with the veterinary teams.

Clients that we are visiting

Prior to our visit:
If anyone on the premises exhibits signs of COVID-19 (including a temperature or persistent cough) or develops signs that could be due to COVID-19 prior to the visit, then you MUST contact us immediately. 

  • All visits will be risk assessed and attendance will be in line with BEVA, RCVS & BVA guidelines.
  • When making an appointment with us we will ask you if you, or the people you live with, are unwell, have returned recently from an ‘at risk country’ or are self-isolating with someone.
  • In the event that you have answered yes to any of our questions, and depending on the circumstances, the visit may go ahead if you have made arrangements for someone else to be with your horse whilst we attend.

At the time of the visit:

  • Only one person from your property should assist the veterinary surgeon.
  • Physical distancing (at least 2 metres) should be maintained throughout the veterinary visit.
  • A strategy for sedation may be discussed with you to facilitate the examination/ treatment without compromising physical distancing.
  • Gloves should be worn by everyone throughout the visit.
  • You should not touch any veterinary equipment.
  • Please appreciate that additional tasks that have not been discussed prior to the visit may not be possible due to COVID restrictions.
